Ornamental Wall Cover
These Leather Wall Coverings are from the Apartment of Julius III. Gilded and painted leather were precious decorative elements in wealthy homes. They were made of goat or lamb skin, tanned and treated, then decorated to give a metallic effect giving the effect of gold. The artist is unknown. These coverings were created in the 17th century. They were restored and placed back into the Papal Apartment.
