ART TOUR OF THE NUNCIATURE

The Washington Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums enjoyed an art tour of the Nunciature on Saturday, April 6, led by Brother Britt, archivist for the Embassy.

He did a wonderful job of showing us so many lovely pieces of art that we had overlooked in the past, while providing a history of the building as well. Seeing the chapel as it is today, but discovering it had been redesigned in the 1980’s, changing it from the original Gothic style, was a surprise to us all.

Everyone enjoyed Brother Britt’s stories about the Nunciature’s past and the acquisition of the some of the artwork. The beautiful mosaic tables were particularly interesting as he drew our attention to the fine details and unbelievable artistry.

A special treat was seeing the garden. It is so tranquil and lovely, and is surely a special place for those who reside in the Nunciature.

We truly appreciated the time he spent with us and we wish him a continued success in his quest to discover more history about the decorative arts in the Nunciature.

Our special thanks to Brother Joseph John Britt, CFX, for sharing his love of the arts and his warm hospitality!
